Parents and Families of District 27: Welcome to the 2009 – 2010 school year, and thank you for visiting our website! I am extremely excited with the opportunity to serve as the principal of Jefferson Elementary School. I began my teaching career in Lincoln District #27 and consider it an honor to return to the district in the role of a principal.
At Jefferson we are implementing several new school improvement initiatives this year. These will focus on the following areas:
Increasing Homework Completion/Study Skills
Improving Reading Comprehension
Improving Social Skills
Improving Vocabulary Development
Look for information that will be coming home with your child regarding all of these initiatives as we kick off these programs in late August and early September. Our staff is anxious and ready to begin implementation.
I urge you to take an active and a participatory role in your child’s education. Initiate conversations with your child about daily school activities. Go through your child’s backpack and discuss homework assignments with your child. Your interest will mean so much to your child. Remember that literacy is the foundation for all school subjects. Read with and to your child daily, and make every opportunity a learning opportunity!
Remember that a good night’s sleep is extremely important for children. Set a schedule for a consistent and early bedtime, and stick to it! Good nutrition is also an important factor in your child’s academic success.
Open communication with the school is very important. Stay in contact with your child’s classroom teacher. Our teachers are extremely dedicated, and work very hard to ensure that each child will succeed. Finally, our PTO and SCC are great ways to be directly involved with the school. Here’s to a successful and productive school year,
Tammy Martin
